According to IDEA, visual impairments is defined as, “an impairment is vision that, even with correction, adversely affects a child’s educational experience.” This definition can include partial of complete blindness. For students with visual impairments, it is more important than ever to understand how the environment is related to classroom learning. One resources available for educators who are helping their students is the Assistive Technology Training Online Project prepared by the School of Public Health and Health Profession at the University of Buffalo. This website provides countless examples of what to look for and different tools to assist students who are visually impaired. Some of these include tools for enlarging texts, different types of pens, bold-lined papers, and other such tools. In addition, they provide other links to resources for more conceptual or pedagogically-based practices.
