As a most children grow up, they hit predicable developmental milestones. When a child does not reach one of these milestones at the expected time, they are said to have a developmental delay. According to the IDEA, the general definition of a developmental delay is, “a delay in one or more of the following areas: physical development; cognitive development; communication; social or emotional development; or adaptive (behavioral development).” Developmental delays can be broad, and because if it, it is especially important for an educator to provide the right support in the classroom. The CEEDAR Center is a collaborative resource created to provide teachers with the most up-to-date information.
