It can be difficult enough to master this when students follow traditional behavior patterns. The official IDEA definition of emotional disturbance is quite extensive, but generally it is defined at as condition that affects the way a student learns that cannot be attributed to intellectual, sensory, or health factors. Some examples of emotional disturbance can include an inability to build meaningful relationships with teachers, schizophrenia, inappropriate behaviors, and unhappiness. Teachers who have students afflicted with emotional disturbance disorder can be at a loss to help their students, especially if they do not have a strong relationship established with their kids.
